What I’m about in 10 minutes
Entrepreneurship: Providing value to people and businesses while making money and doing work I love
Personal Development: Recognising that most great individuals consistently work on improving themselves, even when the general population would say that they’ve “made it.” Denzel Washington, the two time golden globe winner and two time academy award winner (once for best actor in the film training day) still attends acting classes on a regular basis; he is still focused on developing his skills even at this advanced stage in his career.
Skill Building: Similar to the above point, I believe that if you stop learning – you stop living! Between all the books and online resources available, there are no limits to what we can learn and, subsequently, what we can achieve.
Life After University: Helping university graduates and ‘in transition’ 20-something individuals figure out what they want from life, cut through all the B.S. and go after their goals with tenacious drive
Strategic networking: I believe surrounding yourself with people whose goals and achievements align with your own is the secret to success. If you want to be an actor, find the best and most successful actors out there and connect with them (to clarify: connect, don’t stalk ;-D)
Not putting your happiness in the hands of others: it’s no one else’s responsibility to make sure you are happy with your life. Take ownership of your actions, start doing shit you enjoy and realise that life is too short to be unhappy.
Fitness & Nutrition: My entire adult life I have been overweight. I’ve always been a big sports player and have spent some time in the gym building muscle and loosing a lot of puppy fat, but I have not yet reached a level of fitness I am happy with. Preventing health problems as I get older is more important to me then aesthetics.
Productivity: If consistently producing your ‘best work’ is what differentiates successful people from the mediocre masses, surely figuring out how and when you produce your best work and optimizing that time is one way to become successful.
Being A Bit Weird: I have always been a little bit weird, not so much that I wore dark makeup and listened to depressing indy music, but enough for me to realize that what I wanted from life and how I saw my life playing out was extremely different from the masses.
Travel: I recently packed up all my possessions into a carry-on backpack and moved to Bali, Indonesia and whenever I can I hop on a plane and visit other awesome places in SE Asia like the Philippines and (soon) Thailand.
Hustle/Hard Work: I used to think that rich people work less then the common working man, and I’m sure there are a few cases where this is so. But as I meet more and more people who I consider to be successful, I realise that they work harder then anyone I know. Sure, outsourcing and e-myth style “systematization” are great, nut nothing replaces perspiration.
My Story
So I’ve done some awesome things in my lifetime, I’ve also done some really boring things. So that I don’t waste your time, here are the highlights:
Life for me really started in 2010 when I graduated from the University of Hull with a BSC degree in Marketing. Since then I have experienced a lot:

The stress of unemployment and trying to find meaningful work in a job market recovering from a recession (while living in the most expensive city in the world)

Budget living and eating so many peanut butter sandwiches I cringe whenever I see a jar of sunpat

Experiencing a ‘quarter life crisis’ and realising that I have no idea what I want to do with my life, while also realising that I can do anything with my life – the problem of unlimited choice!

The insatiable desire to travel and see the world and the depressing reality of not being able to afford a bus trip yet alone a plane fair

And finally overcoming several setbacks to find what I can only describe as the best, and last, job that I will ever have (it allows me to visit the beach you see in the above pic on a daily basis).
I now live and work in SE Asia as a hard working online marketing and web development intern of the tropical MBA program, but also as an entrepreneur learning from my peers and attempting to build my own lifestyle business.
LewisQ.com follows my journey as I attempt to sprinkle a bit of Lewie dust on everything I touch and dominate life. Follow along, you never know when you might learn something.
