The second best thing to zero is something better than bad

Ahh Seth, you and Malcolm Gladwell are the only two writers I know who take these strange, broken up concepts, thoughts and problems that probably cross the minds of thousands of people every day – and create stories and passages out of them that just make sense.

From Seth Godin’s latest post ‘Talker’s Block‘ about writing every day, just like you talk every day, to avoid the problem of writers block:

“The second best thing to zero is something better than bad. So if you know you have write tomorrow, your brain will start working on something better than bad. And then you’ll inevitably redefine bad and tomorrow will be better than that. And on and on.”

I talked about this before in my post “staying ahead of mediocrity” but it wasn’t nearly as succinct. The point that’s important here is that “shipping nothing is safe.”
We can sit down every day, planning and filling up notepads with brilliant schemes and project outlines, but until we ship something we are letting fear win.

Launch something, and improve and adjust accordingly. There is no better way to learn and grow as an entrepreneur or a maker in my opinion.
